Audition Information — Fall 2020

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, concert band auditions (风合奏 and Symphonic Band) will be conducted via video this semester. Video recordings of your audition will be uploaded to YouTube as an 未上市的 link. See below for more instructions.

Auditi一个e must play 两个 contrasting sections of music and scales as listed:

  • One fast section to demonstrate technical ability AND 一个 slow section to demonstrate 抒情.
    • (Auditi一个e may also prepare either two solo 一块s of contrasting styles or 一个 that includes both fast and slow sections.)
    • 萨克斯: To be considered for 风合奏, you need to perform the excerpts as assigned by our artist teacher of saxoph一个, Dr. 迈克尔·埃尔南德斯. 给他发邮件至 michaelnhernandez@gmail.com 获取节选.

Total video should be no longer than 8 minutes of playing.

关于交响乐团

The 交响乐团 performs a wide variety of literature, including the masterworks for band, and contemporary wind literature. Under the direction of Dr. 大卫Vickerman and 克雷格·麦肯齐, the philosophy of the 交响乐团 is to encourage musical growth in all students through careful selection of appropriate repertoire. 交响乐团 is open to both music and non-music majors, and performs twice each semester.

音乐 Majors focusing on classical performance must participate in either 风合奏 or 交响乐团 as a major ensemble. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester and are open to all majors. Students will sight-read and perform a prepared 一块. Instruments are available to students who pay a $30 音乐使用费 each semester. Scholarship awards are based upon performance level and the needs of the School. 在那里 is no additional cost to the student for local and regional band travel and tours.

Auditions are not required for 交响乐团, but are used for seating.
